Day late and a QOTSA dollar short...

So recently, it has come to my attention that I have been a day late and a dollar short on another significant band that others have probably obsessed over for many years. Mostly due to the past year obsession of my own - Them Crooked Vultures. What lead me to them was, of course, my love of the Foos and Dave Grohl. Yet, quickly discovered the tall drink of water, Josh Homme and was immediately smitten. Which then lead me to...yes, Queens of the Stone Age. Sheesh, I feel silly. Turns out that I knew more of their music than I thought, after seeing them perform on August 12, 2010 at Club Nokia. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do.

This is exactly what happened Foo Fighters. I didn't realize how much I knew of their music, let alone really liked it until many years after they had been around. And I've spent the last 3 years running around making up for lost time. So, I feel like a bit of a fraud. I have met so many awesome fans of both of these bands - people who have traveled the world for them - and I wish I could go back in time to get a much earlier start.

So, I asked a friend (who really is a die hard NIN fan - dont' get me started on that, cuz that is another band that I hopped on way late and missed the opportunity of seeing many shows over the last year or two) for his recommendations on which QOTSA album to start off with. He suggested Over the Years and Through the Woods - and what a great suggestion indeed! A live DVD and CD! I picked it up last week, and attempted to play the DVD while at work, but kept getting to distracted by JHo!! What can I say, I'm a sucker for the ginger ninja!!

What I found is that I really do know more of the songs then I thought I would. And the realization that I just don't know names of albums and song titles the way I did when I was young. Does it matter? I'm hoping not. Does it make me less of a fan? I'd really like to think it isn't an issue. But I'm sure there are plenty of die hards out there that would tell me to step off and go back to the 80s. Holy crap...when the fuck did I get so old. Fuck it...I don't care...I like what I like when I like and if you don't like it, then step off. Yeah, I've got attitude...listen to QOTSA and try not to!!
