This was a special event for Jimmy Kimmel Live. Hollywood Blvd was closed down for this show for an estimated 5000 fans.  It was one of those nights that confirmed why living in, near or around Los Angeles, or in Southern California for that matter, is freakin' awesome. Thanks to organizations like 1iota and locally produced shows such as Kimmel, that allow the fans opportunities such as these.  Looking forward to more in the future.

The Hives

When: Sunday, February 17, 2013
Venue: House of Blues, Anaheim
Accompanied by: Gabrielle
Genre: Garage/Punk/Rock

Upon the insistence and recommendation of a mutual friend, Gabrielle and I went out to the Anaheim House of Blues to listen to a band from Sweden called The Hives. From what we had been told, they were an amazing live act not to be missed. And when all was said and done, we were glad to have been there. The crowd in attendance were as eclectic as the band themselves, which made for a fun evening of people watching. And the music was fast, furious and fun.

Looking around online for reviews of the show, I came across this one from a guy who's definitely a fan. I'm guessing he made the effort to get to the venue early in order to secure a spot on the floor near the front... whereas me and Gabs chose to hang out upstairs near the bar where we could breath and make a quick exit once the show was over.

Amazingly, all 19 songs as listed above were smushed into an approximately 90 minute set. Now, that's my kind of show. Got my rock n roll fix and was still home and in bed before midnight. What can I say? I'm getting older and can't hang like I used to. But, that's okay because most rock stars these days are my age or older and can't party the way they used to either.

Muse Kicks Off 2013

When: Wednesday, January 23, 2013
Venue: Staples Center, Los Angeles
Accompanied By: Gabrielle
Genre: alternative/progressive rock

Back in October 2012, I told my friend Gabrielle that I was going to win us tickets to see Muse in January 2013.  Sure enough, I pulled it off and thanks to KROQ, Gabs and I enjoyed an evening of Muse as a kick off to the New Year. The downside is that we made the assumption that Muse would not take the stage until 9pm...I mean, what respectable rock band starts a show before 9pm, right?  So, unfortunately, we missed the first 10-15 minutes...if memory serves correct, we came in after the star spangled banner intro to Hysteria. But aside from that little mishap, Muse sounded fantastic and they did not disappoint on the stage presence. Although, I will say that the stage set up of 2010 was a bit more impressive, but that didn't detract from the show one bit.  All in all, this was an excellent way to start 2013!!

Lucky me...thanks to a friend who decided she didn't want to attend Saturday night's show, I got to see Muse twice this week!  Another amazing show - a slightly different set list and this time we made sure to be there in time to catch the show from the get go.  Life is good!!

Sound City Players

When: Thursday, January 28, 2013
Venue: Paladium, Hollywood
Accompanied by: Gabrielle
Genre: Rock N Roll

Over THREE hours of pure awesomeness. Too much for me to even comprehend. But then the fact that many vodkas & red bulls were consumed that night, it might be a bit impossible for me to remember a whole lot. Fortunately, through the power of the Internet, I am able to piece together most of the evening.
